Root Collar Excavation
A root collar excavation is extremely important for young and old trees alike. Whether young or old, the best condition for the tree to be in is to have its root collar just above the surface of the ground, open to the air. Young trees may have been planted too deep, while old trees may have been back-filled. In performing a root collar excavation we will also inspect for and correct any potential problems we may find such as girdling roots, or burlap, string, and metal that may have been left on the tree when planted. If not dealt with, a buried root collar can be very detrimental to the long term health of your trees.
